Drafting
The Drafting course prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and understanding of scientific principles, mathematical concepts and technical skills, including CAD, combined with lab experiences which are supportive to the architect and the architectural engineer. This subject matter is concerned with developing plans for building using various materials and creative layout and design that is in compliance with building codes, zoning laws, and other regulations and ordinances. The worker assists the architect in inspections to make certain that the design is not altered and that the materials used agree with contract specifications, primarily in the field of building construction.

Drafting students from the Wilkes-Barre Area CTC participated in the 24th annual Northeast Pennsylvania Regional Bridge Building Competition held on Saturday 2/11/12 at the Viewmont Mall in Scranton. Joe Gurnari (senior) placed 6th, Everett Appleby (junior) placed 12th, and Robert (RJ) Skurka (sophomore) placed 13th out of a total of 51 bridges registered. The alternate student for the competition was Don Shoemaker (senior). This event is sponsored by local business and industry. The objective is to design and build a balsa wood bridge with the highest efficiency. This is determined by the mass of the bridge and the weight it can hold and eventually smashing to pieces. Students are required to apply their science, technology, and math skills to design a bridge with specific criteria. Local high schools and tech centers, with an engineering or drafting program, compete for the high stakes to advance to the International level of competition, which is held in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the first year of competition for the Drafting students.
