Residential Construction

Course Syllabus

The course is designed to introduce the student to the Home Building and Renovation trade by providing hands-on instruction in the use of all the trade related tools the school has available. We encourage both independent and team related performance in the trade by allowing the student to create their own small furniture project, which they can take home upon completion. This stimulates creativity, and planning and logistical skills, and problem solving, as the student moves through each segment of their projects progress. By doing so the student learns how to plan, estimate, price, and calculate the labor related to their project. From their the student becomes involved with different in-shop teams who may be working on larger building projects such as:

- Building a mock-up dwelling within the shop.
- Providing building maintenance within the school.
- Participating in building projects outside the school relating to local non-profit organizations.

The ultimate goal is to provide practical instruction to prepare the student for gainful employment in the field of Residential Construction.
